Privacy policy
How The Digital Engine uses the personal information you give us. Last updated 10 October 2026.
Who we are
The Digital Engine is the trading name of Croíadh Molloy, a sole trader based in Co. Kerry, Ireland. We're responsible for the personal information described in this policy. For anything about your data, email hello@thedigitalengine.ie.
When we build or run systems that handle our clients' customers' data, we do so on the client's behalf under a separate written agreement. This policy covers the information you give us directly.
What we collect
- When you use our contact form: your name, email address, business name, your website or social link if you give it, your message, and the service you're interested in. Our form provider also records the IP address and browser details sent with each submission, which helps filter out spam.
- When you email us: your email address and whatever you include in your message.
- If you book AI Assistant Setup & Training or work with us: your questionnaire answers, notes from our sessions and calls, and the details needed to invoice and take payment.
- During an AI Assistant Setup & Training session: you log in to your own AI account yourself, and we never ask for your password. Business information you choose to add to that workspace is held in your account with the AI provider you use (for example Anthropic for Claude, or OpenAI for ChatGPT), under your own agreement with them. We don't keep a copy unless you send it to us.
- When you visit the website: our hosting provider processes technical information, such as your IP address, to deliver the site and keep it secure.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To reply to your enquiry: our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
- To deliver a service you've booked or asked us to quote for: to take steps towards, and carry out, a contract with you.
- To keep business and tax records: our legal obligations.
We don't use your details for marketing unless you've agreed to it, and we don't sell them.
Who we share it with
We use these service providers to run the business. They handle your information on our behalf and only for these purposes:
- Netlify: hosts this website and receives and stores contact form submissions.
- Google Workspace: our business email. Each form submission is emailed to us at hello@thedigitalengine.ie.
- Stripe: if you buy The Client Edit, Stripe processes your payment on its own secure checkout page. We don't see or store your card details.
If you go ahead with AI Assistant Setup & Training, we'll send you payment details when we confirm your session.
Transfers outside the EU
Netlify is based in the United States. Netlify's published privacy statement says it takes part in the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission has recognised as providing adequate protection for personal data transferred to participating US companies.
Google may transfer email data outside the EU. Google's data processing terms for Google Workspace (the Cloud Data Processing Addendum) say it relies on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework for these transfers, and on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses where that framework doesn't apply.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don't lead to work: deleted within 12 months of our last contact.
- Client and financial records: kept for six years, as Irish tax law requires, then deleted.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, ask us to restrict or stop using it, object to how we use it, or ask for a copy to take elsewhere. Email hello@thedigitalengine.ie and we'll respond within one month, as the law requires.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.
Cookies
This website doesn't set cookies and doesn't use analytics or advertising trackers.
Some pages connect to outside services when you view them. The Client Edit pages and our website examples load fonts from Google Fonts. Our document pages, such as Why AI, Why Now and the GDPR overview, load software from unpkg.com. When this happens, your browser connects to those services, which receive your IP address.
Our animated explainer page remembers where you paused it using your browser's local storage. That information stays on your device.
